Wood Hall Hotel Wedding in the United Kingdom
Last month, we traveled to the United Kingdom to photograph Emily & Ben’s wedding at Wood Hall Hotel & Spa in Wetherby, West Yorkshire. It was a beautiful and sunny Sunday for their wedding, which we were told was unique to have so much sun!
Wood Hall Hotel & Spa was built in 1750, and it is a gorgeous and stately mansion on 100 acres overlooking the West Yorkshire countryside. To give you a point of reference, it was built before the United States Constitution was signed in 1776!
Emily and her bridesmaids got ready in the mansion, and she got dressed in her parent’s suite. Then, we went outside for photos with her bridesmaids in the terraced gardens. There were lovely white floral arbors in full bloom throughout the garden!
Emily and Ben’s wedding ceremony was indoors at Wood Hall Hotel, and it was called a civil ceremony because they did not have a religious ceremony in a church. Unlike the United States, in England and Wales, a legal wedding can only take place in a venue licensed for weddings and cannot take place in the open air, in a tent, marquee, or any other temporary structure.
Their wedding reception was full of English traditions and some of the most unique and funny treats for guests! Their wedding “breakfast” (dinner) was 3 courses including Yorkshire pudding, Pork cutlet with cabbage and potatoes, and Bailey’s creme brûlée. Ben’s mother, Jeanie, is an amazing baker, and she made their wedding cake and cheese cake. But it wasn’t the type of cheese cake you would assume. It was 3 giant cheese wheels with the cutest knitted wedding mice adorning each layer! And at each table, wedding guests received funny cards they could hang on their noses with various mouths and expressions. It was absolutely hilarious!
