Spence Cabin Summer Wedding

Most people don’t know that the Smoky Mountains are part of the Appalachian temperate rainforest – with dense and lush vegetation, towering trees, and ample rainfall. On any given day, it can rain and be sunny a dozen times!

This sweet couple got married in late June, and their summer wedding is the perfect example of this. When we arrived, there was sunshine and blue skies. Then, there were loud rolls of thunder in the distance during their ceremony, and we knew rain was on its way.

Right after their wedding, it began sprinkling, so everyone went inside Spence Cabin for the reception. It poured for a solid 30 minutes. Then, a huge patch of blue skies opened up and we scurried back outside for photos with the bride & groom. You could still feel big drips of water trickling off the leaves of the trees, and the wet moss on the rocks by the Littler River were squishy and the richest shade of green you’ve ever seen!

Located in the Elkmont Historic District of the national park, Spence Cabin was built in 1928. Today, in it’s restored state, it’s a pink cabin with green shutters tucked away in the forest of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. One of our favorite venues in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is Spence Cabin in Elkmont. It’s perfect for intimate weddings and elopements, and it’s on the bank of the Little River. The Appalachian Clubhouse is great for receptions too, and it’s located in Elkmont as well. With a quick 2-minute drive between the cabin and the clubhouse, many couples choose to reserve both venues for their wedding day.
