Snowy Greenbrier Wedding – Gatlinburg Adventure Elopement

This snowy Greenbrier wedding in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was definitely a Gatlinburg adventure! Getting married in the winter in the smokies can be both amazing and challenging. Everything from hiking, seeing black bears and elk, gazing up at the waterfalls and watching the amazing sunsets, to hopping across boulders in the river and playing in the snow. And with the snow comes ice, hills & curves, and road closures.

The night before Charly & Will’s wedding, there was a snow storm in the smokies. The road to their ceremony location (among many others in the national park) was closed, so we had to change locations for their wedding. We called the park to confirm which roads were open, cross-checked with their officiant, Chuck O’Connor with Sensational Ceremonies, and quickly made a Plan B.

Then, Charly and Will carefully drove down the mountain in Gatlinburg from their AirBnB to get breakfast. Little did they know how challenging it would be to get back UP the mountain. After getting stuck in the snow, they miraculously made it back to their cabin and then to Greenbrier for their wintery riverside wedding. And boy was it amazing!

We’ve never seen Greenbrier so beautiful, draped in snow with the sound of the river flowing over the smooth rocks. It’s always an adventure here in the smokies, and hiring experienced wedding professionals who know the mountains, roads, seasonal challenges, and can recommend alternatives when needed can be a lifesaver. We’ve been shooting weddings and elopements and hiking in these mountains all our lives, and there’s no place we’d rather call home!

Greenbrier Weddings in the Smokies

The Greenbrier area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is on northern side of the park, and it is near Pittman Center just outside of Gatlinburg on the banks of the Little Pigeon River. It is generally not very crowded with less traffic. There are three wedding locations in Greebrier: #1, #2, and the picnic pavilion. The approved wedding ceremony locations are on the banks of the Little Pigeon River, and there is an abundance of beautiful backdrops for wedding photos including the river, forest, wooden bridges, and large rocks in the river.
